The Phoenix Mercury (yes, that's a thing) defeated the Chicago Sky tonight to win their third WNBA title (that's also a thing. I checked).
Literally 10s of people attended the champisonship game, while several others tuned in to watch on tv.
The Mercury played the game without their inside threat, 6'8" center Brittney Griner who averages 17 points, almost 4 blocks per game and can freakin dunk the ball! Apparently she had a case of cramps or something - or at least that's what Lebron James told me.
So basically the other team sucked. Bad.
A member of my crack journalism team was on the street in Chicago asking fans how they felt about this heart breaking loss.
Among the answers received were "What game was this?", and "We have a girls team?". There was also a group of rotund men who just kept chanting "Daaaa Beaars".
The good news for the Mercurcy is that thanks to the Canadian Football League, and their nine total teams, this isn't the most meaningless championship in team sports. It's second.
