Associate Head Coach?

The New York Knicks have hired Kurt Rambis as an "associate head coach".

Not an "assistant", but as an "associate head coach". Is this the way they appeased Rambis (who likely should have been offered the head coaching job ahead of Derek Fisher) who may have felt slighted as an assistant to a guy he once coached who has absolutely no coaching experience?

Is this a clear indicator that the level of faith in Fisher isn't what it was made out to be a month ago? It would appear that if Fisher slips that his predecessor is already in place.

To some the three headed monster of Rambis, Fisher and Phil Jackson may feel like a little too much redundancy, and to others it may appear as depth at the leadership position and an organizational strength.
